Cisco hit the accelerator pedal on collaboration Wednesday, launching an expanded portfolio of products designed to put collaboration higher on corporate priority lists.
Company Senior Vice President Don Proctor said he sees a massive $34 billion market opportunity for vendors with the right equipment and software to sell. “Collaboration is the next phase of the Internet,” he said in a press release.
Cisco has long said Web 2.0 technologies will revolutionize how business is conducted around the world. With today’s announcement, it continues to put money where it mouth is, investing in what it sees as the next hot tech market place.
In unveiling its latest push, Cisco introduced its Unified Communications System Release 7 and TelePresence Expert on Demand, both available immediately. The portfolio also includes WebEx Conect, a software-as-a-service platform.
Cisco said the products enable customers to create mash-ups with other Web-based programs and tools. They also now link to in-house technology desks and call centers to summon experts onto Cisco’s high-definition, broad-screen TelePresence conference calls.
