Silicon Valley companies today have a difficult time recruiting workers unless they are perceived as good companies doing valuable work.
Philanthropy can help create that perception, says Larry Brilliant, executive director of Google.org, the Internet company’s charitable arm.
“Philanthropy is a great tool for recruitment,” Brilliant said during an interview at the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco. “It is time to use technology to make the world a better place.”
Brilliant said Google does not use its charitable giving – $100 million last year – to increase its profits. But that doesn’t mean “philanthropy can’t help your company,” he said.
Google.org has invested in 50 clean energy companies as well as firms fighting disease and fostering the spread of information.
Very well-written blog post. Regards
