It took Facebook 7 months last year to surpass its holiday traffic peak. Probably less this year
According to analyst firm Hitwise, Facebook saw its highest ever traffic level on Christmas Eve 2008 – reaching 2.18% of all US Internet visits compared with an average 1.42% average in November ’08.
In 2008, the Palo Alto, Calif. social networking startup had to wait 7 more months to finally surpass that holiday peak, in July 2008.
But this time around, Facebook’s rapid growth indicates that it might take less than 7 months to surpass last week’s peak.
In comparison, MySpace’s market share of U.S. Internet traffic reached 4.71% on Christmas Eve 2008 versus 5.93% the prior year, a drop of 20% and dropping and dropping!
