Sharp Sees 10% Increase In LCD TV Sales in 2009, Integrates Blu-ray

sharp-numbersAt a press conference at CES, Sharp expects a 10% increase in LCD TV sales in 2009 despite downturn and an expected 16% decrease of worldwide LCD TV market to $64 billion.

However, analysts expect the LCD TV market to recover in 2010, with an increase of 10% at $70 billion, $6 billion shy from 2008 numbers.

Sharp highlights Blu-ray expertise

The Japanese maker announced a slew of new products, including the world’s first all-in-one LCD TVs with integrated Blu-ray player, a home theater system with built-in Blu-ray, standalone Blu-ray players, a surround sound bar and a fairly dull iPod dock (what’s up with that?).

In a questions and answers session, Sharp management confirmed it has no plans to sale a Blu-ray recorder due to device connectivity incompatibilities and content protection issues.
