Americans are spending more time online, but still trail residents of China, South Korea, Japan and Italy in the percentage of free time they spend on the Internet.
Time spent online at a home computer in the U.S. rose to 15.3 hours a week in 2007 – a big jump, according to the USC Annenberg School Center for the Digital Future. That was up from 3.3 hours in 2000, 7.8 hours in 2005 and 8.9 hours in 2006.
Still, the Chinese spend about 44 percent of their leisure time online compared with 30 percent for Americans, says TNS Global. South Korean spend 40 percent, Japanese, 38 percent and Italians, 31 percent.
