Drum roll, please. And now for the latest feature in Google’s ever-expanding search engine: earthquake tracking.
Sure, Silicon Valley is a quake magnet. So it makes sense for a Mountain View company to be thinking about vibrating earth. But it also makes sense for users in Pakistan, Indonesia and Japan, where tremors also routinely occur.
Type in earthquake and Google’s search engine will return a list of the most recent earthquakes, their magnitude and their time.
Just interested in California? Type in earthquakes California.
How about Indonesia? Well, don’t try earthquakes Indonesia. It didn’t work when I tried it. Maybe the feature is still being polished.
In any event, Google says in a blog entry the information for the feature comes from the U.S. Geological Survey.
