The best thing an iPhone 3G user can do is to "downgrade" their not-so-smart phone !
Such customer disdain from Apple comes as no surprise.
It’s been a month since Apple released iOS 4 for iPhone 3G and 3GS and that consumers have been complaining – even on Apple’s discussion forums – of all sorts of problems directly related to the upgrade: unbearably slow, rapid battery drain or excessive heat!
And by the way, the upgrade to 4.0.1 doesn’t help either.
But the worse is Apple’s attitude. Just like with “Antennagate” Apple pooh-poohed criticisms, that is, until today. FINALLY! Steve, where are you? Still in Hawaii?
Apple is investigating reports that the latest iPhone operating system causes problems for users of the iPhone 3G, after a series of complaints on Apple support forums and technology blogs,” writes the Wall Street Journal online.
Here are examples of customer complaints.
But the iphone is very slow with IOS4. It doesn’t work as smooth as it used to be. Also new applications such as the iBook application are very slow, doesn’t respond smooth on screentaps etc.
This is absolutely ridiculous, the additions to the 3G handset are consolidation of email, a zoom to the camera and folders on the homepage….so why the **** has the handset slowed to snails pace??!
5 seconds to open the text window. Another 3 seconds to get a popup text input keyboard. 3 seconds to open the email window
This is such an outrageous situation that even the most loyal Apple fans are feeling that the Cupertino, Calif. is forcing them to upgrade to the iPhone 4 by making their iPhone 3G totally unusable!
“This phone has gone from being a dream to constantly annoying me. Not a way to make friends. I would upgrade to an iPhone 4, but I’m feeling pretty angry that Apple has forced my hand by making my 3G unusable,” wrote a user on the Apple support discussion forum.
So, Apple here’s YOUR roadmap for the next few weeks:
- Fix the iOS4 operating system or at least give your most loyal customers an option to downgrade to the older operating system!
- Fix the iPhone 4 antenna. Recall the whole damn thing and finally sell a flawless device that actually works the way it should;
- Fix the white iPhone 4 manufacturing and please stop lying about shipping dates
- Oh, and I forgot… and this one is for the boss… APOLOGIZE for all the trouble your lies caused to faithful fans and aggrieved customers!
A few of my favorite games like lightbike and several of my GPS required apps no longer work since the upgrade either. And Pandora is much slower and choppier than it used to be cutting in and out.
Its time apple was hit where it counts… th pocket books. Switch to the HTC
this was APPLES way of saying i cant help you….and i even asked why cant you release the 3.0 downgrade for 3g users until you fix 4.0 software.

Add 4 3g iphones to the problem! I am really tired of them trying to fix the issues with the 4.0….I DONT CARE ABOUT THE 4.0….I JUST WANT TO BE ABLE TO USE MY 4 3G IPHONES, WHICH JUST RIGHT AFTER I BOUGHT OUR 4 3G IPHONES THEY COME OUT WITH THE NEW GLORIOUS 3GS, WHICH BEFORE IT CAME OUT THEY SAID THERE WOULD BE NO NEW IPHONE FOR A FEW YEARS!! THERE WAS A SMALL WHITE LIE BY BOTH AT&T AND APPLE! THEN SHORTLY AFTER THE 3GS THEY COME OUT WITH THE 4.0???? WHAT HAPPENED TO CUSTOMER LOYALTY? LIKE AN IDIOT I WENT OUT AND BOUGHT AND APPLE MACBOOK, WHICH I REGRET DOING BECAUSE I COULD HAVE USED THAT MONEY TO BUY 4 NEW CELL PHONES TO REPLACE OUR 4 3G PHONES THAT DONT WORK!!! I AM FURIOUS! AND FRUSTRATED!
And so none one attacks me for not letting you know what my iphone are doing and what I have done to troubleshoot and address this issue….
1. dropped calls, heck calls dont make it through half the time they go straight to voicemail
2. apps dont open when tried the first 4-5 times, they start, screen goes grey and home screen appears
3. texting is hard to open and when it finally comes up and you try to type you can type 3 or 4 words before the letters show up on the screen and then they disappear and you think they have deleted only to find out when you push send you’ve retyped those first 3-4 words. somehow they hide behind your typing window
4. you can only add 1 picture at a time to mms or email IF your lucky enough to get it to attach to the txt or email, but if you try to add a second pictures you lose the entire msg!
5. battery life exhausts itself insearch of signal continually and from trying to open apps
6. in the middle of using an app it closes and you find your self starting over
7. did i say extreme delay in every area of my phone
8. when pressing home key it does nothing, nothing, nothing so i do a soft reset daily 3-4 times
9. there have been occasions when i have opened an app and it has shut down my phone
10. when i open an app for some strange reason itunes login appears and will keep reappearing until i enter my password
shall i go on…..?
i have spoken to apple, troubleshoot, reset, lost all info when i actually went into an apple store and had to pay for my apps all over again, i was told my iphone had a virus, so i went to a second apple store (this was while we were in vallejo california working) so i have been to 2 apple stores for help and have gone to at&t and of course they cant really do much but tell you to call apple and do soft resets and tell you to do a restore.
so, what do you suggest? i am truly upset as you can see! i know this is not any fault of you. i would like to be shown the same gratitude by APPLE that i have shown APPLE by buying their product because i assumed they were the best. but as the saying goes when you assume things…..

I agree completely. The “upgrade” to IOS 4.01 bricked my phone for 3 days. Now it’s very slow and buggy. I feel like I’m dealing with VISTA for $&@?! sake. I seriously want to jump ship to the android or some other platform.
I will not upgrade. But now it seems that Apple are making many apps only suitable if you’ve upgraded to the 4
