[FailCon] How New York Times Gadget Guy Almost Lost His Job Using Microsoft Office Mac 2011! (Video)

Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 Internal bug list... yet to be fixed!

It’s a true story that just happened last week to New York Times tech columnist David Pogue!

Using Pogue’s own description, Office Mac 2011 is “buggy”, “un-stable”, “problematic”, and “missing features.” Something he experienced first hand when Outlook for Mac failed several times to send his review of the Microsoft software to his editor’s work email account (the one set by default) and got him almost sacked!

So before upgrading to Microsoft’s latest office suite for Mac, make sure to watch the video below first

Personally i don’t bother upgrading, they keep changing all the time its just sucking money out of you for a few little features added. And look in the video above the little additions stuffed up the program. My favorite office is still 2003 it was the easiest to use.

  3. We actually had to switch from Outlook for Mac to Entourage to account for these issues 2 weeks ago. Luckily the entire company is moving over to google for email.

I know this will probably won’t be very popular but i’d like to bring a bit of reality and be a less subjective to this issue…

First as a employee in software company i would like to add some details to his comparaison with a car building company. A car once on a factory line is supposed to be a fixed product, just like the “model” which is used for the factory. A comparaison would be to try every office in each box it release, of course this would be silly since it’s a perfect binary copy.

The famous “fix list” used in the video is in fact a never ending list, always changing and reanging priorities. Most company use mostly customers feedback as a way to priorize the “items”.

In thsi case his bug was placed under the “red line” which is unfortunate for him, but all the bug above will probably affect mre users which is good for them.

Also new software release aren’t release suck money, once you have a product out, every users (anykind of them) ask for addons. Some will get them some won’t depends on the number of request, complexity and so on. It may be possible that your needs doesn’t evolve, if that’s the case you are right, upgrades aren’t for you.

Im not still sure why the software company got this bad press about releasing new software to make more money, but my theory is that since this industry can release new “version of their product” with a pretty low release impact. Like toyota for example, they had a “bug” in their release version, they can’t simply release a quick fix, they need alot of efforts for that, which reduces the release frequency…

    Well that’s it…
